I found your post about gift giving very meaningful. After I read it a couple of weeks ago I sent messages to all three of my kids informing them that what I wanted from them for Christmas was their time more than anything. I asked them to get me a gift certificate to a coffee shop or pizza parlor or something like that and then we could make a date, just the two of us and have a latte or a pizza together. I explained I wanted them to save their money, that I have everything I need and that my favorite thing is spending time with them.

They enjoy giving me gifts I think (as I do them) so I'll be interested to see if they comply or not, but the message was very well received nonetheless. I overheard the youngest (home from college) talking to the other two on the phone that "my idea" (sorry, I took credit for your idea) was cool but they were still gonna get me something as well.

Just thought you'd enjoy this.

Have a great holiday - Merry Christmas!
